The Gaming Giant Recruits Popular Battle Royale Producer to Boost Struggling Hero Shooter Project Ethos

2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently working on the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Change Comes After Poor Reception

Brinkman steps into the leadership position at the development studio following the exit of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to the game's underwhelming unveiling last fall.

On Wednesday, the company's top executive a key figure notified staff about this decision through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had shown the requirement for a more defined direction.

The president stated that the developers is now refining the project with a revised focus, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.

Trend of Key Acquisitions

This announcement follows a similar action taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

Below is the entire message from the president's communication:

Team—

I understand you all just finished your meeting - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Previously I sent you all a note, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and talented creators we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that relationship to endure.”

Through your commitment and flexibility, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.

The gamer responses from last autumn’s Project ETHOS playtest was enlightening. It confirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had work to do. It highlighted the requirement for a more distinct identity.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve come. You took the criticism to mind and revamped the title with a refreshed vision - one that’s poised to deliver on its potential to our fans.

Our confidence in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To further the remarkable advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome Ben Brinkman as the new Studio Head of the team. After some time of talks, he comes aboard us on next week.

His management and expertise in the competitive gaming field is vast, having spent the past decade and a half producing and managing some of the most well-known franchises in the industry, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, the battle royale hit.

I invite you all in receiving him soon. We are all looking forward to continue seeing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the weeks to come.

David

Experience of the Incoming Leader

Brinkman currently serves in the role of senior developer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. Brinkman earlier was employed at major gaming companies in multiple development positions on the iconic franchise series, and, before that, had stints at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Game Information and Vision

Project Ethos was revealed in last year in conjunction with a community playtest. Then, 31st Union presented the game as a "no-cost, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an exciting step forward on the category."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the game's pitch explains. "Challenge the opponents with unique powers, risks, and challenges that shift every round. Do you withdraw carefully with your valuable rewards? Alternatively go big, put it on the line, and pray your group can secure victory? The option is yours."

The game has not yet received an confirmed launch window or supported systems, but fans can look forward to additional details as creation advances.
